Project Challenge
- Sorting of photo products and photo books ready for dispatch
- 38 m long vertical sorter with 22 sorting destinations
- 54 trays (tray size 750 x 550 mm)
- Processing of a wide range of formats and shapes
- Optimal space utilisation under limited space conditions
The ferag.skysort.compact solution
Ferag fitted a ferag.skysort.compact vertical sorter into CEWE’s existing building in Oldenburg. This compact tilt-tray sorter runs 38 metres long. It serves 22 sorting destinations across 54 trays. Because the trays measure 75 x 55 centimetres, the system handles CEWE’s largest products, including DIN A3 photo calendars. A spiral section connects the sorter directly to a conveyor bridge. DHL uses that bridge to load its swap bodies without any manual handling in between.
Results
CEWE now sorts photo products and photo books, including large-format DIN A3 calendars, on a single ferag.skysort.compact line at its Oldenburg site. The 54 large trays handle formats that smaller sorters could never process. The direct spiral connection to DHL’s conveyor bridge removes a manual handling step from the shipping process. This same compact sorter for large-format photo products fits inside CEWE’s existing building without any structural changes.
