The ferag.skysort.compact solution
Ferag fitted a ferag.skysort.compact vertical sorter into Zalando’s existing building in Erfurt. The compact tilt-tray sorter runs 31 metres long. It serves 18 sorting destinations across 120 trays. Because the trays tilt to either side, the system handles both rigid boxes and soft polybags on the same line. Each shipment sorts to the correct destination by country or postcode. This compact, modular layout let Ferag add fine sorting to outbound business. The building itself never needed to expand.
Results
Zalando now sorts up to 4,800 units per hour through the ferag.skysort.compact line. This compact tilt-tray sorter covers the full range of shapes and packaging types the fashion retailer ships. The space-saving layout fits within Zalando’s existing footprint in Erfurt. The modular design also leaves room to expand sorting destinations as outbound volumes grow. The same space-saving sorter for outbound sorting adapts just as well to other e-commerce shipping operations. It works equally well wherever floor space is tight.
